Substack, help me choose my next read!
This month my reading endeavours have shifted slightly. Interestingly, I have not yet picked up a non-fiction book, which is quite unusual for me. Instead, I’ve been immersed in fiction: I’m halfway through Conclave by Robert Harris, currently reading Babel by R. F. Kuang - a book I’ve been meaning to read for years - and What the Bones Don’t Know by Kristyn McDermott, a haunting work of crime fiction. Given this, you might say I have been busy haha, and yet I crave a non - fiction book still!
As such I have a few non-fiction titles lined up, and I would love your help choosing which one to begin with.
Persons in Progress by Jemma Sbeg, host of The Psychology of Your 20s, explores why we respond to certain people and places the way we do - experiences that shape us in both positive and difficult ways - and offers thoughtful perspectives on how we can grow from them especially in the context of going through our 20s.
Alchemy by Rory Sutherland argues that many of the greatest ideas haven’t come from logic but emotion, perception, and seemingly irrational thinking. Through examples from branding, business, and everyday life.
The 80/20 Principle by Richard Koch examines the less is more notion; how the 80/20 rule can be applied across different areas of life to achieve more while expending less effort.
Sounds cool right? Maybe these are books you have read! If so please let me know! I’d love to chat about what stood out for you? Did the book make sense? Where did you apply the material into your life?
And for those that haven’t read the books listed, what book would you like me to read anyway and I’ll do a review of it, cheat sheets of the essentials throughout, plus a reflection on all the questions above!
